Character dining at the Disneyland Resort is quite a bit different than at Disney World. Because the resort is a bit smaller, there aren’t quite as many options to choose from. But once you experience the character meals, you’ll love the Disneyland difference!!

Dining with Characters

There are two types of character meals at Disneyland – character meals and premium character meals. Vouchers for both types can be added to your vacation package (ask your Travel with the Magic Travel Planner for more information). Premium meals include Ariel’s Grotto and Goofy’s Kitchen, while the standard character meals are Minnie & Friends Breakfast – Plaza Inn on Main Street, Surf’s Up! Breakfast – PCH Grill, and Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Critter Breakfast – Storytellers Café.

Ariel's Grotto

Ariel’s Grotto – Ariel and some of her Princess friends are here to join you for breakfast and lunch. (Please note that there are World of Color Dinner Packages also available at this restaurant but Princesses do NOT appear during dinner). The restaurant is decorated in a fun, under-the-sea inspired motif. You’ll dine on pastries, fruit and an entrée for breakfast. Lunch includes savory options including lobster tail salad. Ariel greets you as you enter the dining room while her Princess friends are announced during the meal and visit from table to table. On our last visit, we saw Ariel, Cinderella, Snow White, Mulan, and Belle.

Goofy's Kitchen

Goofy’s Kitchen – Goofy and some of his friends are here to entertain you at breakfast and at dinner at the Disneyland Hotel. You never know who you might run into here – Goofy, Chip, Dale, Mad Hatter, Minnie, Jasmine, Baloo and more have all been known to make appearances. The meal is served buffet style with fun offerings like the peanut butter and jelly pizza and Goofyroni and cheese.

Minnie and the girls

Minnie & Friends – Minnie greets you in the perfect way to start your day, a character breakfast inside the park! Breakfast is served buffet style with favorites like Mickey waffles, French toast and made to order omelets. You never know which of her friends may be stopping by! On our last trip, we saw Captain Hook, Fairy Godmother, Max (Goofy’s son), Tigger, Perla (one of Cinderella’s mice friends) and more.

Goofy in the Lobby

Surf’s Up – Located at the Paradise Pier Hotel, this fun filled character breakfast starts the day with made to order omelets, banana caramel French toast, Mickey waffles and more. This is the only character breakfast where you can find Mickey Mouse. You’ll also meet some of his friends, like Pluto, Stitch, Daisy and more. Again, you never know who might stop by! The PCH Grill also serves dinner, but there are no characters during dinner.

Storytellers Cafe

Chip n Dale’s Critter Breakfast – Chip, Dale and many of their critter friends take over Storytellers Café at the Grand Californian for breakfast. Breakfast is a combination of buffet and table style dining. Critter friends you may see include Meeko, Koda, Kenai, Br’er Fox, Br’er Bear and more. Lunch and dinner are also served here but without characters. Breakfast offerings include Mickey waffles (of course!) but you may have to ask your server for them. The buffet also includes made to order omelets, fresh fruit and more.
