You probably know that there are four theme parks at Walt Disney World in Florida: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But did you know that Disney also has two water parks? Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are part of Walt Disney World’s property, and you can add water park access right onto your theme park tickets!

A water park is a great way to cool off with your family during those hot Florida summers.

I visited Blizzard Beach with my family during the month of September. It was still very warm and steamy outside, and this was a very good way to spend a day with the kids. You can actually visit Disney’s water parks all year round, too.

The storyline is that Florida received a record-setting snowfall, and so they built a ski resort. But of course the snow melted quickly, and so we’ve been left with a ski-resort-themed water park. I love all the little Disney touches, like the ski lifts to get to the top of the water slides, and the alligator character who wears a scarf and hat.

There are thrill rides for the bigger kids, including the Downhill Double Dipper, Slush Gusher, and the very intense-looking Summit Plummet. And then there’s plenty to do with your smaller children, too. My kids really enjoyed the Meltaway Bay wave pool, Cross Country Creek lazy river, and the Runoff Rapids and Snow Stormers water slides. And the whole family had fun racing each other on the Toboggan Racers!

It’s easy to spend the whole day here — when you get hungry, grab a meal at one of the Quick Service locations like Lottawatta Lodge or Avalunch . They also accept Disney Dining Plans! Blizzard Beach is also famous for their Mini Donuts, too.

And don’t worry about packing your beach towels for the trip. You can rent some at the Beach Haus, no problem!

The laid-back atmosphere here is a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks. This was one of our favorite days of the whole trip!
