DisneyFitness

As with everyone, keeping up with fitness at home is hard, and being on vacation, can make it seem impossible!  But you can have a balance of fun and fitness while and Disney, and here are some ways to help!

  1. Track your Steps

We’ve been tracking steps at Disney for many years. Long before the fitness tracker craze came “alive”, I would purchase inexpensive pedometers for all of us to wear. We would have a friendly family competition to see who would have the most steps at the end of the day!

It’s easy for your steps to add up:

A walk around the Magic Kingdom is 1.5 miles

A walk around the World Showcase is 1.5 miles

From the Entrance of Animal Kingdom to the Safari is a mile.

And a walk from the Boardwalk to Hollywood Studios is a mile.

Now add walking from the room to the bus, from the bus to the park, and from your room to the food court and you have a lot of steps and miles!

Here’s a look at an average day for me in the parks

And trust me, when you have a Daily Showdown or Weekend Step War in your family, you will be finding excuses to get those extra steps!

  1. Running Trails

More than likely, I am training for race while on vacation. And Disney is an interesting, fun, beautiful place to run.   Most of the resorts will provide you with a designated path for Jogging/Walking Guide around the resort

Remember to be safe:

  • use caution when crossing intersections
  • remain on the path
  • wear reflective clothing
  • drink plenty of water
  • venture out early in the morning when it’s cooler
  1. Gyms

DisneyFitnessGyms

If you prefer to workout at a gym, there are many resorts that you can choose for your stay that offer gym facilities:

-Animal Kingdom Lodge

-Boardwalk

-Coronado Springs

-Contemporary

-Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

-Old Key West

-Polynesian

-Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

-Wilderness Lodge

-Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club

Tip: Most gyms require that you be a guest of the resort to use the gym; all gyms require that you must be at least 14 years of age, and children ages 14-17 must be accompanied by an adult.

  1. Be Creative!

There are always ways to work in fitness in your day: use the stairs instead of taking the elevator, do pushups or sit-ups in the room before you go to bed, go for a swim, or dance on the boardwalk!

Bottom line, you can enjoy Disney and keep Fitness in your vacation! After all, we need to work off those Mickey Ice Cream Bars!
