If I could come back in another life as Cinderella, Ariel or Belle, I would. My husband will back me up on this. When visiting Walt Disney World, I am the first to “ooh” and “aah” over the adorable mini Princesses that can be seen all over the parks. The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique does an amazing job of transforming these little girls into true Princesses. The comments and compliments from the cast members as well as other guests truly give them a sense of pride. It melts my heart.

I am always looking for ways to replicate this feeling for my boys. The Pirates League (located at the Magic Kingdom) is a fantastic option for boys and girls who would like to dress up or channel their inner pirate.

On our last visit to Walt Disney World, I packed a surprise costume for my oldest son. We were attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and he had no idea. Walking through the Magic Kingdom in his Mike Wazowski costume, he couldn’t turn around without a comment from someone. It was clearly a good choice and he was in his glory.

The next morning when getting ready for the parks, he asked me if he could wear his costume again. There was no Halloween Party – no occasion. He just wanted to. I happily walked next to him the entire day (at the parks and the resort) enjoying the cast members shouting Monsters, Inc. movie quotes to him, giving him high fives and complimenting his costume. While watching the Laugh Floor show, he was on the big screen…because of his costume. His entire trip was made.

During that visit, a thought crossed my mind. Why wait for the Halloween Party? He could dress up as anyone he wanted to at any time: Mike Wazowski, Mickey Mouse, Captain Hook… anyone. After all, this is the most magical place on Earth- a place where anything goes. If you can’t “be in character” here then where can you?

If your child isn’t into full costumes there are lots of other ways he or she can channel their inner character. T-shirts with their favorite characters work just as well! There are some great Mickey ears and hats that are specific to different Disney characters.

Oh, you’re an adult? That’s ok… big or small, it’s always ok to get into the spirit of being at Walt Disney World. So put on those Mickey ears and make some great memories with your family. I’m sure this will add lots of fun to your next visit!
