I have always heard that Universal has the best waterpark. If I am being completely honest, I am not a huge fan of waterparks, but after visiting Volcano Bay at Universal Orlando, I have a whole new appreciation for waterparks. I LOVE this place! Here’s what you can expect if you are planning a visit in the near future.

Arrive Early – Early Admission is still being offered when you are staying onsite. Take advantage of it to have more time in the waterpark or hop to one of the theme parks in the afternoon with your park to park ticket.

Face Coverings – This is the one park in which a face covering is not required most of the time. Face coverings are required in dining locations, bars, merchandise locations, and as you enter and exit Volcano Bay. They are also encouraged while walking throughout the park, but not required.

Limited Capacities – The waterpark is only allowing a limited number of guests into the park. Onsite guests are always counted in this number, so it is beneficial to stay onsite to guarantee access with your park admission. Lines are socially distanced by markers and wait times are low. When we were there, all of the attractions were “Ride Now”.

TapuTapu – TapuTapu is still being used in the waterpark. This was a great feature before the new guidelines were in place, allowing you to enjoy other aspects of the park while you wait for your turn to get in line, but now it is even more beneficial to promote social distancing. Also, using it to TapTu Pay, you were already able to have a touchless payment option. Each guest will receive their TapuTapu when entering the park and return it as they leave at no additional cost.

With your TapuTapu waterproof wristband you can:

  • TapTu Ride – Tap your wristband on the totem outside the attraction to enter the virtual line. When it’s your time to ride, your wristband will vibrate to notify you.
  • TapTu Pay – Make in-park purchases by creating an account on Universal’s main site or through the Universal Orlando app and add your payment information. Then, you can use your wristband to pay.
  • TapTu Play – Use to play with interactive experiences around the park.
  • TapTu Snap – Photos will be taken on the rides and you can also TapTu Snap photos at three interactive photo ops and selfie spots throughout the park.
  • TapTu Lockers – After you purchase your locker, you will be able to tap to unlock your locker, no key needed.

Sanitizing – You will find hand sanitizer stations located throughout the park. Lounge chairs, tables, and hand railings are cleaned frequently and life jackets, tubes and TapuTapu wristbands are sanitized after each use.

Restaurants – You are required to wear a face covering to enter and exit a restaurant. It needs to remain on while in line which has social distance markers, while you order and walk to your table. You may remove them once you are seated.

A few things to know about Volcano Bay:

  • Cabanas are still available to rent, but family cabanas will only allow for 10 guests at this time for social distancing.
  • Tubes for slides requiring them are complimentary, you do not need to bring your own or rent them while in the park. And, you won’t need to carry them to the top of the slide, which I love! They have a conveyor belt that lifts them to the top of the slide for you to use.
  • Lockers are available to rent and can be found in the Rainforest Village, River Village and Wave Village of Universal’s Volcano Bay. There are three different locker sizes available: mini ($9 per day), regular ($13 per day), and family ($16 per day). You can open lockers as many times as you need during the day.
  • Towels are available to rent for $5 per towel per day. You can also bring your own.

Pro Tip: Grab some towels from your resort pool area to bring along. They are free to use and you will not need to bring your own from home or pay to rent at the park.

It is definitely worth upgrading your park to park tickets to include Volcano Bay. There is something for everyone in your family to enjoy whether they are thrill seekers or like a more laid back day. My personal favorites are spending time at Waturi Beach or taking a ride on the waves of TeAwa, The Fearless River.

When deciding if now is the right time for you to make travel plans, I always recommend that you consult your doctor first and refer to the current CDC guidelines. Visitors from out of state should be aware of and comply with government guidelines regarding travel restrictions and mandatory quarantines before visiting the Universal Orlando Resort.
