Tips for Planning Walt Disney World Experiences Based on your Favorite Character or Story
Do you have a favorite Disney character or story? Everyone does, young and old! Imagine planning your Disney vacation to include magical experiences around your child’s favorite characters and stories. From Disney resorts, to restaurants, to rides and shows, there are plenty of opportunities to step inside your favorite stories. A little planning ahead can go a long way in creating some themed experiences.
It all starts with the type of Resort Room you choose. Why not stay inside the story? Disney offers multiple options for Story Rooms that will bring you right into the story. Even if you do not choose a story room, each Disney resort has touches of Disney and other themes that you can easily work into a themed day/vacation.
Once you have chosen your room you can move onto planning the activities that will go along with your story/theme. There are multiple ways to do this; you can plan one day around the story or you can scatter them out and work something from the story into each day. If you have children, you could assign one day to each child and the whole family gets to experience that child’s favorite story throughout the day. Or, you can be sure to incorporate bits and pieces of each child’s favorite story each day of your vacation. Be sure to make a big deal about it, take pictures, and make some great memories as you experience each piece of the story together.
Today, we will look at 2 examples of how you can incorporate themes into your planning using The Little Mermaid and Pirates of the Caribbean as examples.
The Little Mermaid
Resort:
The newest additions are at the Art of Animation Resort, a value resort, featuring
Standard Rooms as well as Family Suites. For your favorite Ariel fan you can’t
go wrong with the Little Mermaid Standard Rooms at Art of Animation. The rooms
are incredibly themed and while Ariel is the star of the show, these rooms will
appeal to everyone with touches of “Under the Sea” everywhere you look. Take a
dip in the Flippin’ Fins pool located just steps from your room and enjoy the
larger than life characters and artifacts form the movie.
Activities:
Meet Ariel in her grotto. This is a worth-the-wait- meet and greet as you get time with Ariel without the people waiting in line seeing you and feeling hurried. Sit with Ariel on her clam shell for some pictures; she is very talkative and interactive. (Magic Kingdom)
Under the Sea-Journey of the Little Mermaid is a new ride in the New Fantasyland. Sit in a clam shell and enjoy being immersed into the story, all your favorite scenes, and music from the movie! There is so much to see you will want to ride it twice. (Magic Kingdom)
Festival of Fantasy Parade-Debuting just last month (March 2014) this brand new parade features colorful costumes, upbeat music, and of course, character from the Little Mermaid. (Magic Kingdom)
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique – Treat your little princess to a makeover in the style of Ariel herself! (Magic Kingdom and Downtown Disney)
Voyage of the Little Mermaid- A live action musical using puppetry and some neat special stage effects. An entertaining way to take a break from the heat and/or the walking! (Hollywood Studios)
Water Parks: Why not let your little Ariel swim the day away at one of Disney’s Water Parks! Ask your travel agent about ticket options!
Pirates of the Caribbean:
Resort:
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is the perfect backdrop for your Pirate themed room. Sleep in a Pirate ship bed and enjoy details from top to bottom throughout the room. The Pool area offers more pirate theming as do some of the restaurants and gift shops throughout the resort.
Activities:
Pirates of the Caribbean Ride– the attraction that started the craze. This is another ride you can do multiple times and see something new. It’s also a longer ride, one of the longest at Walt Disney World, so plan it when you need a break from the heat and walking. (Magic Kingdom)
The Pirates League: Girls and Boys (young and old) can learn get a pirate makeover, hear pirate stories, get a pirate name, and take the pirate’s oath. Perfect to do before you ride the ride! (Magic Kingdom)
The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow- Journey into the movie and even see Captain Jack himself. This attraction takes you into one of the scenes from the movie, you will walk away feeling as though you just sailed with Captain Jack himself. (Hollywood Studios)
Disney Junior Live!– Although this is not a Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, it does feature Jake and the Nederland Pirates which are just as exciting to the little ones! Be sure to stop at the meet and greet area and snap a picture with Jake! Or, share a meal with Jake and other Disney Junior characters at Hollywood and Vine for Lunch or breakfast. (Hollywood Studios)
Pirate Adventure Cruises: Multiple options are available for children ages 4-7. See you travel agent for details to help you pick the best one for your child. This is a memory they will never forget! (Multiple locations around Walt Disney World)
Pirates and Pals Fireworks Cruise: This is on the whole family can enjoy together! Climb aboard and enjoy the Electrical Water Pageant and Wishes fireworks like you’ve never seen them before! (Seven Seas Lagoon near Magic Kingdom)
