California Grill provides one of the most unique experiences one can have in Walt Disney World. This restaurant sits on the 15th floor of the Contemporary resort. It has three observatory decks where you can go out and watch Wishes, illuminations, view the Orlando Skyline and over all get a view of Walt Disney World that you can only get at California Grill. It truly is a must for anyone who visits Walt Disney World.
On my last trip to Walt Disney World I had to make my annual trip to California Grill. Whenever I first check into the desk on the 2nd floor of the Contemporary I get excited. It is a little silly I guess but something about taking that one specific elevator all the way up to the 15th floor is exciting! I love walking out of the elevator and looking all around at the amazing views. Once we get seated I love to look around and take in the atmosphere of the entire restaurant. From the bustling kitchen to the lively bar and outside all of the windows there is no possible way to not be amazed!
For this experience we were sat right by one of the window’s. Within about 2-3 minutes our server came over and took our drink orders and brought out our bread. Once we ordered drinks and appetizers he left and we waited for our food to come. This was my grandfathers first time dining here so I took him out and showed him all the stunning views from the observatories.
When we came back inside our server had already brought our appetizers and our drinks. We ordered the Cheese Plate (a common theme for me) and the Squash Blossom “Oscar” both were just okay I would not recommend the Oscar and the Cheese plate was just average not nearly as good as most others on property.
As soon as our server cleared our appetizers our main course was brought out. Everyone at the table ordered the Oak-fired Filet of beef. This was the first time for me at California Grill I had only had the Veal in the past and it was not on the menu so I had to step out of my comfort zone….
Overall everyone enjoyed their steaks they were all “pretty good” not the best any of us had ever had but overall they were okay. Once we finished eating dinner it was time to watch Wishes! This experience is why I personally come to California Grill it is just incredible and awe inspiring every time!
After the show our desserts were brought out everyone enjoyed them they were not great but not terrible either.
So for me the experience was good the food was honestly a little above average but the atmosphere is incredible as always! I still believe that California Grill is a must for me every time I visit Walt Disney World. However starting on February 2 it is closing for refurbishment. After my last trip I think that it is time for a refurbishment and a new menu I think it will help this restaurant a lot! The opening date is just set for sometime in the summer so more information will be posted if we find anything out!
