“Is that the one inside the Pyramid?” -This is the first question I get when I mention one of my favorite table service dining options at EPCOT. The answer is no. Most people know about the Mexican Restaurant inside the Mayan Pyramid at the Mexico Pavilion in EPCOT. However, La Hacienda de San Angel is newer and is located down by the water. You could easily miss it if you aren’t looking for it. The entrance is just around the corner from the Quick Service location (La Cantina de San Angel). I highly recommend this for a late dinner (Advanced Dining Reservations (ADR’s) HIGHLY recommended).
Here is why I love this place:
1. Atmosphere- You walk in and the hustle and bustle of the Parks stays outside as you enjoy beautiful décor, lighting, and a fabulous view of World Showcase Lagoon. This may be the best view you can get as far as proximity. The windows are floor to ceiling making the Lagoon the obvious centerpiece to the décor. As much as I enjoy people watching, it is nice to enjoy the view of the water while eating dinner instead of watching hundreds of people walking by.
2. Service- We experience GREAT service here. Even when they are busy, the servers are quick and attentive and get everything correct. I am amazed at how they keep everything moving and everyone happy. Well worth the time it takes to have a sit-down meal at Disney!
3. The FOOD! -Of course the food is on this list! Because you can find Mexican food pretty much anywhere, it took me a few years to try this location thinking it would be similar to any Mexican Restaurant I could find at home. However, the menu here is unique. Everything is very fresh and the menu has options for everyone. The Seafood is fantastic and vegetarian options are plentiful. The Prix Fixe menu is a wonderful way to sample many flavors-we like the one with the seafood-and it’s meant to be shared. Desserts here are interesting. I haven’t tried it but if you have room for dessert, I hear the Helado de Maiz is the perfect combination of sweet and salty.
4. Illuminations!-I realize this is similar to #1 on my list but really this is such a wonderful experience, it deserves its own spot on the list. And really, this is what makes this dining location an event and not just another dinner. The view of Illuminations from La Hacienda de San Angel cannot be beat. The lights are lowered and the music is piped in and you have a front row seat to experience Illuminations like never before. No heads in front of you, no straining your neck to see what is happening on the big globe, it is all right in front of you in all its brilliance. Eat here at dinner and stay for the fireworks…I promise it will be a highlight of your trip.
