The Florida Keys are located off the southern tip of Florida that runs about 120 miles long. The Keys are made up of over 1700 islands, in which only a small percentage are accessible by car. Because there are so many islands in the Keys, the Keys are divided into groups. They are grouped as the Upper Keys, Middle Keys, and Lower Keys. Key Largo is the first Key and Key West is the southernmost Key. The Keys are surrounded by The Gulf of Mexico to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The Florida Keys are known for its year round tropical weather and tropical environment. There is so much to do in the Florida Keys from; swimming, fishing, diving, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, biking, and the list goes on. The Keys are known for its unique shopping and dining. Seafood and key lime pie are famous in the Florida Keys.

We stayed in our RV at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. John Pennekamp is located in Key Largo. Key Largo has numerous hotels, RV resorts, and vacation home rentals. There are many different vendors that offer boat rentals, kayak rentals, paddle boarding, snorkeling tours, dive tours, and fishing charters. Key Largo is known as the dive capital of the world. During our stay we did a snorkeling charter and rented kayaks & paddle boards.

During our vacation we did a day trip down to Key West. Key West is approximately two hours south of Key Largo. The drive down on the Overseas Highway is beautiful. Most of the drive you are surround by turquoise water. On our way we stopped in Islamorada to visit the famous Robbie’s. Robbie’s is a neat location where you can feed the Tarpon and dine at their restaurant & bar. Robbie’s also offers snorkeling tours and kayak rentals. My kids thought it was so cool to watch the Tarpon jump out of the water to catch fish that people were dangling over the dock.

Once we arrived in Key West we had great time strolling down Duval Street. Duval Street is lined with shops, restaurants, bars, and museums. We visited the Southernmost Point Buoy which is a monument marking the most southernmost point in the continental U.S. Other popular attraction in Key West are the Hemmingway Home, Butterfly Conservatory, Key West Aquarium, guided tours, dolphin encounters, and seaplane tours.
