Let Them Eat Cake Part 3-The Delicious Details
In the past few weeks we have introduced you to the great tradition and magic of Disney Cakes. We have explored reasons to celebrate and ideas for locations to celebrate. Today we will look at some of the delicious details.
The Possibilities…
Fondant, filling, flavors, sizes, character toppers… There are a lot of choices when it comes to custom cakes!
Fondant and More Elaborate Decorative Options:
Screen Prints and inscriptions are available on 8 and 10 in basic cakes and are a fun way to customize the basic cakes. Fondant is a fun way to get creative and more elaborate with your custom cakes. The bakeries at the Contemporary Resort, Yacht & Beach Clubs, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Grand Floridian can accommodate orders for fondant covered cakes, mini cakes, white chocolate character cake toppers, and cakes in flavors other than the standard vanilla and chocolate. Though you are not necessarily limited to these locations because the Boardwalk Bakery will provide for Caribbean Beach, Old Key West, and Saratoga Springs. Boardwalk is also the only location for the fancier cakes that will let you pick up the cake yourself. Also, the Contemporary Resort Private Dining can provide cakes for Magic Kingdom and Wilderness Lodge, the Grand Floridian Private Dining can provide for the Polynesian Resort, and the Yacht & Beach Club Private Dining can provide for some Epcot restaurants and the Art of Animation Resort. (For any of these options mentioned call Private Dining at the appropriate resort. In addition, Private Dining at your resort may be able to pick up cakes from other Disney resorts for you. Call them directly to find out.)
I wonder who wanted this cake 😉
Flavors:
The basic custom cakes are the most widely available and come in vanilla or chocolate (some locations also offer a marble cake and yellow cake options) with chocolate buttercream, vanilla buttercream, or whipped frosting. Some locations offer cakes with fillings such as buttercream, strawberry custard, and white chocolate, dark chocolate or raspberry mousse. Coronado Springs offers additional flavors like carrot cake, mixed berry, and Oreo cookie. The Mickey Mouse head shaped cake is available at Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and all Deluxe Resorts as well as Ft. Wilderness. Flavors for the Mickey cake are; Vanilla or chocolate with chocolate mousse filling and customized writing on the serving plate. A “Zebra” cake is only available at Animal Kingdom Lodge and is made with vanilla cake filled with chocolate mousse and light and dark chocolate zebra stripes.
Deluxe, Moderate and Value Resorts:
No matter where you stay you can enjoy dessert celebrations. Last week we featured some pictures of the special occasion amenities available at some of the Deluxe resorts. While Deluxe resorts do have the most options, moderate and value resorts are not left out of the magical celebrations. Moderate resorts now offer cake orders that can be delivered to your room or the table service restaurant at the resort. And, at the Value resorts you can order a cake and pick it up at the food court. The Grand Floridian has the most options of flavors, icing, fillings, and fondant designs since they do all the wedding cakes.
The Parks:
Cakes can be ordered for each of the parks at the cake hotline. Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the most limited in options (Yak & Yeti or Tusker House).
Disney’s Hollywood Studios offers the Mickey Mouse cake as well as basic cake options and screen prints.
Epcot gets a little complicated since some of the restaurants in World Showcase are supplied by an outside vendor. So, the following locations in Epcot only have basic custom cakes available and the flavors and sizes vary by location; Bistro de Paris, Chefs de France, Nine Dragons, Marrakesh, San Angel, La Hacienda de San Angel, Teppan Edo, Tutto Italia, and Via Napoli. All other Epcot locations have the basic cakes as well as the Mickey Mouse cakes and the mini cakes and fondant cakes are available at Coral Reef, Garden Grill, and Le Cellier.
At Disney’s Magic Kingdom you can get pretty much an variety of cake options mention plus the unique Cinderella’s’ Glass Slipper Dessert available at Cinderella’s Royal Table This is a white or dark chocolate slipper filled with mousse. The plate has fresh berries and can be customized with writing upon request. The Grand Floridian and ntemporary Resorts also offer the glass slipper dessert but these are the only locations.
The only location at Downtown Disney for Custom cakes is Captain Jack’s and the basic custom cakes including screen prints and Mickey Mouse cakes are available.
With the information we have shared, you can start to create the idea for your cake. Don’t worry about remembering the specific details of where you can get what, just call the cake hotline and let them know what you want and they will work with you to create the best design, flavor, and location for your celebrations! Remember to ask your travel agent for help if you need/want it!
If you have specific customized ideas you should plan ahead and order early. If you want to add a basic cake or mickey cake this can be more spontaneous (though some flavors other than the basics will require more advanced notice).
The possibilities really are overwhelming-But that is a good thing! You need to know that sizes, flavors, and options vary by location. But, whatever you need whether a mini cake for 2 or a sheet cake for a party; A customized fondant cake, or a glass slipper for your Princess, Disney can make it happen. Just remember to be flexible, plan ahead, and ENJOY!
