A Perfect Day Off at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort

If you’ve ever visited Walt Disney World in Florida, you know it can be a lot of fun, but it can also be a VERY tiring vacation! A typical day probably begins with a 6:30 am wake-up call, and ends with bedtime around midnight, with about 7-10 miles of walking in between! By the third or fourth day, the whole family can start feeling a bit (understandably) crabby, but I have a solution!

Add a day to your hotel stay, but don’t add a day to your park tickets, and take a Day Off in the middle of your trip!

Here’s my plan for a Perfect Day Off if you’re staying at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort!

On a Day Off, always start by sleeping in! Don’t set an alarm, and get the rest you need!

Grab some yummy breakfast at the Riverside Mill Food Court to start your day, then catch a BOAT to Disney Springs!

Some of my favorite activities at Disney Springs:

  • Visit the awesome Lego Store (And create your own minifigure – ask me how!)
  • Purchase all your souvenirs at World of Disney, so you won’t need to carry them around on your park days.
  • Have lunch with dinosaurs at T-Rex Café!
  • Enjoy a “taste test” with the Around The World Tray at the Coca-Cola Store Rooftop Bar.
  • Stop by the Disney PhotoPass Studio and take some family photos for free (If you have the Memory Maker photo package for your trip, ALL these pics are included too! Or you can just purchase the ones you want – the photo session is still free!)

You can even see a movie, ride in an amphibious car, or go bowling there if you like!

When you’re finished, have a relaxing boat ride back to Port Orleans Riverside! It’s super easy!

In the afternoon, head over to Ol’ Man Island: There’s a nice playground and a big heated pool with a 95-foot-long waterslide!

You can also rent bikes for the whole family. They have big Surrey bikes you can ride together, or rent a bike for each person – They even have bikes with training wheels for the little ones!

If you’ve got something more relaxing in mind, there are hammocks scattered around the property. Bring a book or take a nap! You can also schedule a horse-drawn carriage ride, or enjoy some catch-and-release fishing from the dock with an old-fashioned cane pole.

For dinner time, make a reservation at Boatwright’s Dining Hall and enjoy Shrimp and Grits, or Blackened Salmon with Dirty Rice, or even some fabulous Jambalaya!

Then after dinner, head over to the River Roost Lounge for a family-friendly music show featuring the famous Yehaa Bob Jackson! He’s such a great entertainer!

And enjoy a stroll in the moonlight on the way back to your room. This resort is so peaceful – And it’s a perfect way to end your Day Off!

When you’re ready to start planning YOUR trip to Walt Disney World, let me help you make the perfect vacation for your family (Including a Perfect Day Off)!
