When someone mentions “Disneyland” or “Walt Disney World,” what’s the first thing that pops into your head? The price? Mickey Mouse? The castle? For me, it’s 2 things… churros and Mickey Mouse ears. Random, I know, but is there anything cuter than a little kid eating a churro while wearing their Mickey Mouse ears? The first time I went to Disney was as an adult, and let me tell you, my head is too big for their cute ear headbands and Mickey ears. This was devastating as I had always wanted them. Seeing that I was Queen of Hearts head size status, I was forced to find a new souvenir. Something that I could get a new one every time we went. Lo and behold, I found the perfect souvenir… shadow silhouettes!
Shadow silhouette locations can be found throughout both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. At Walt Disney World, locations can be found in the Magic Kingdom on Main Street U.S.A. and Liberty Square, and also within Disney Springs. My favorite location is found in Disneyland on Main Street U.S.A. There’s just something about the cute little storefront that seems so inviting as if you’re stepping into the past. The line for the Silhouette Studio starts on Main Street U.S.A. This is a small room with enough space for 3 or 4 people inside, so don’t be discouraged if there’s a line. In around 60 seconds per person, the Disney artist will cut out a silhouette of you and your loved ones. They do this by JUST LOOKING AT YOU! No fancy lighting or backdrops for these pros. Each silhouette is hand-cut and watching these cast members at work is absolutely mesmerizing.
Once everyone in your family has been “cut,” they’ll assemble them together. Thus, creating a one of a kind memento from your day at Disneyland. You can even purchase a decorative frame to take home and display. It’s really neat to see how the kids have changed throughout the years with their shadow silhouettes. If you are planning a solo trip and don’t want to be alone in your picture, you can ask for Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, or even Tinker Bell to be added. This is the perfect souvenir for families, couples, and solo travelers!
Thinking of a trip to the Disneyland Resort in California? I’d love to help make your trip magical and “practically perfect.” It’s never too late or too early to plan a trip to Disneyland! JessicaM@travelwiththemagic.com
