runDisney Costume Tips
I have run many, many runDisney races over the past five years. When I first started running them, it was at the very beginning of my running “career” (the Disney half marathon was my very first half!) so I didn’t know that dressing up for races was a “thing”. Also, it seems as the years have gone on, more and more people are embracing costumes.
Running a Disney race is one of the most fun things you will ever do, so why not make it even more fun with costumes? Below are some of my favorite costumes I have worn as well as some tips about running a runDisney race in costume.
1.) Don’t over do it: After all, you still have to run! You want to make your costume as fun as possible while still making it easy enough to run and move in. I have seen people run in full zip up furry costumes from head to toe, and I can’t imagine how hot they are or how they run in them!
2.) Test it out before race day: You may feel silly but this is important. Every time I have NOT taken my own advice I have regretted it, and ended up being very uncomfortable during my run. You don’t want to have anything rubbing or causing discomfort for anywhere from 3.1-26.2 miles.
3.) Consider a group costume I love running with friends in Disney, and running all together in a group costume is a great way to be creative and make memories. There are so many things to choose from!
4.) Bring you camera: You spent all this time brainstorming and working on your costume, be sure to capture the moment! There are also plenty of great photo ops and character stops along the race route, so take advantage.
5.) If something doesn’t work, ditch it. There have been a couple of time in races where I didn’t test out my costume before hand, or the weather ended up not cooperating with my costume and I had to ditch part of it. Don’t feel bad about this! It’s much more important to be comfortable and have fun than to worry about every piece of your costume staying put.
