At Walt Disney World you can choose from 5 moderate resorts when choosing on-property accommodations: Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs, The Cabins at Fort Wilderness, Port Orleans – Riverside, and Port Orleans – French Quarter. Each of these resorts has unique theming and offer a different experience. I’ve had the privilege of staying at 3 of the 5 moderate resorts. Let me share with you the reasons you will love staying at Port Orleans – French Quarter.

Size – It’s the smallest of the 5 moderate resorts. There are 7 buildings all located within close walking distance to the food court, gift shop, pool and bus stop. No matter which building you stay in, it takes very little time to make your way around this charming resort. This is one of the features that I loved about French Quarter. After returning from the parks, I always enjoy heading to the food court to grab a drink in my resort refillable mug. This is one of my family’s favorite Disney traditions. The close proximity makes it so convenient.

Sister Property – Port Orleans has two properties – French Quarter and Riverside. This is an added bonus for guests staying at French Quarter. You have access to all the recreation at Riverside too! Normally, you cannot pool hop between resorts, but this is the exception to the rule. You can take the internal resort shuttle between the resorts or the walking path along the river.

Dining – The newly remodeled Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory Food Court has a great selection of Cajun, Creole, and American cuisine. And, they have beignets. These are so good! You really need to try them for yourself. I recommend dipping them in caramel sauce…YUM! Other dining options at French Quarter include a lounge, poolside bar, and in-room pizza delivery. For a few more options, take a short walk to Port Orleans Riverside, where they have a larger food court with a wide variety of food selections, or try Boatwright’s Dining Hall for table service dining.

Rooms – This resort sleeps up to 4 adults. Rooms have either 1 king bed or 2 queen beds. If you are looking for a step up from a Value resort, this resort is reasonably priced to fit within your budget. If you have fallen in love with this property, but have a family of 5, no worries; Port Orleans Riverside can accommodate up to 5 guests in one Standard Room and is a short walk away, so you can still spend some time at French Quarter. Both of these properties are delightful. You won’t be disappointed.

Recreation Activities – If you are spending a day or two at your resort, pool time is probably at the top of your list. French Quarter’s pool area, Doubloon Lagoon, has an amazing 51-foot long serpent water slide, kids water play area, and whirlpool spa. Complimentary child-size life jackets and towels are available to use. In the afternoon, join in the fun with a variety of poolside games and activities to entertain kids. You may also head over to Port Orleans Riverside resort to enjoy its pool, Ol’ Man Island. A cute, little playground is available for younger children and there’s a small arcade great for all ages. Take a leisurely walk around the resort enjoying beautiful views of the Sassagoula River. At night, roast marshmallows over a campfire or watch a Disney movie under the stars. Be sure to check the posted times near the pool walkway or ask at the front desk for information about the daily events.

Transportation – There’s one centrally located bus stop with buses going to all 4 parks, 2 water parks, and Disney Springs. Sometimes, buses are shared with Riverside, but most of the time this is the only stop for French Quarter, which means you’ll get to the parks faster not having to make multiple stops. Boat transportation is also available to and from Disney Springs. Take a relaxing ride with beautiful tree-lined views of the river.
