What is Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort? I certainly didn’t know until I experienced it for the first time. My basic definition of Downtown Disney is this: it’s an outdoor shopping mall, Disney Style!
You will find amazing shopping opportunities like World of Disney, incredible restaurants like Rainforest Café, Tortilla Joe’s and Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen, entertainment like ESPN Zone and street performers.
Disney hires the street performers so they’re not just random entertainers trying to make a buck. These are officially Disney sanctioned street performers trying to make a buck, but they’re usually pretty talented, too.
You’ll find something for all ages such as Build a Bear Workshop for the young and the House of Blues for the young at heart. You might be looking for a pair of sunglasses or Lego Building Kit. You’ll find both here at the Sunglass Hut and The Lego Store.
You might be shopping for the ultimate Disney souvenir for your pet sitter back home or for a cute new shirt to wear to the park the next day. You’ll find both here at The World of Disney and Apricot Lane.
There is a newly opened Anna and Elsa’s Boutique and some serious sugar fixes at Marceline’s Confectionery.
You can find a gourmet meal or do some serious people watching. We love to start our trip at Downtown Disney and often end up there, too. There is just so much to do, so much to see, and so much fun to be had. What else would you expect from someplace with “Disney” in the name? The best part is, no ticket is required. You can enjoy Downtown Disney without ever buying a park ticket. So the next time you make plans to head to the Disneyland Resort in California, be sure to plan some time to enjoy one of my favorite places!
