Over the last week I have been “chatting” with Wendy Navarro from Saige Nicole’s Baby & Toddler Boutique on Facebook. At first it was all about her upcoming Disney Cruise Line vacation and how I got involved with Disney vacation planning. I love talking about Disney with anyone who will listen to me and she could tell I love the house of mouse. We then decided to chat by phone about our Businesses and other topics. Wendy was a joy to speak with and very passionate about her Business. I wished my kids were younger because they have some amazing items and I have to say I LOVE THIS!

Tell us about you and your family?

Well, I’m a 40-something (birthday is on July 31st and I decided 40-something is now a great age to be) mom of 3 children. My husband Rick and I will be celebrating our 17th anniversary August 8! I’m very excited because I have planned a romantic evening out and he has no idea what it is. Our daughter Saige Nicole (who our boutique is named after) is 15 and in High School, son Quentin is 14, in Middle School, and our youngest son Vaughn is 5 and will be starting Kindergarten this fall (Lord help his kinder teacher – he is a pistol)

Tell us about your company and why you started it?

I started Saige Nicole’s in 2006. Prior to being a business owner, I worked for the Superior Court of CA in Orange County in Organizational Development and Training. I loved what I did but it was a demanding job. I worked a lot and had to do some traveling. Between my husband’s job (he’s an Information Technology Director) and mine, the children were in daycare for too many hours. We realized that the time away from us was effecting them negatively and came up with a plan to work toward keeping me home. About a year later, I was able to resign and stay home. I loved staying home with my children (then it was only Saige and Quentin) when I got the itch to get back into business. I knew I wanted to do something that would allow me the freedom to still be home with the children while keeping my business skills sharp so, Rick and I sat down, created a tick list and decided on Saige Nicole’s (by then I was pregnant with Vaughn), it was a perfect fit. After all, what better thing do I know than being a Mom? I was in the mommy shopping mode by then too and was scouring boutiques for unique and beautiful things for our soon to be little guy. It was tough going place to place with 2 kids in tow and being pregnant so, that just reaffirmed the idea of opening a high quality baby and toddler boutique where parents could shop for everything they need (or want) under one roof and in the comfort of their home. Vaughn was born in June 2005 and with Rick by my side taking care of the web requirements for the boutique, we officially opened the virtual door of Saige Nicole’s in June 2006. Today, our older children help out with the business by completing data entry, checking in merchandise and other tasks and Saige is beginning to learn the customer service end; answering phones or questions via our on-line live chat. Vaughn is also involved and models some of our boy’s fashions.

Saige Nicole’s is a true blessing and we have experienced great growth and recognition among our peers and with our customers in the past 4 years. Saige Nicole’s has even been featured in highly recognized and regarded children’s magazines and blogs including, BabyTalk Magazine, Parenting OC Magazine, Parenting News Guide Manhattan, MomFinds.com, Beauty News NYC, OCFamily, Hudsons Magazine, Kanchi, AU, GreersOC and others!

Tell us about your blog?

Our blog focuses on everything of interest to parents and grandparents with small children. We blog about children’s fashion and trends, new arrivals, contests and giveaways, helpful parent tips, recipes, recalls and more. We even have guest bloggers who are experts in their fields and write guest blogs for us in their area of expertise. Of course, everything revolves around our customers and their interests as parents with small children. Coming soon we’ll have some great blogs posts for back to school and our Fall Fashion Features.

What are your top sellers?

We have a great selection of clothing, accessories, gifts and décor. Our top selling item year round, is our Personalized Birthday Shirts and, if for a girl, parents like to pair with our Custom Tutus. Children love to see their name in print and parents love to celebrate their child’s birthday (I know we do!) so, by offering a whole outfit, literally from head to toe including the hat, headband and shoes, our customers can shop for that special outfit in one location. Our top selling line is Right Bank Babies. We have carried this line since we opened and it continues to be at the top of our parents favorites list year after year. The top seller in this line is their reversible shift dress and we sell out of them every season. The beauty of a reversible dress in not only that it’s like having 2 outfits for the price of 1 but if your little one gets her jelly sandwich all over the front on the way to grandmas all you need to do is flip it and voila – she looks perfect!

Do you have any upcoming events or promotions?

We actually have a great sale on our One Ruby Lane girl’s shoes and sandals. Right now select shoes and summer sandals are marked down 50% – 75%. It’s really crazy – you can get a beautiful pair of $50.00 leather sandal encrusted with crystals for $12.99! We also run specials and exclusive offers for our e-mail subscribers and Facebook friends too. We like to be spontaneous and you never know what we might do. We just had a Subscriber special and offered $5.00 shipping on their One Ruby Lane Order regardless of how many shoes they purchased!. Customers were picking up shoes left and right (no pun intended). Our Right Bank Babies Spring and Summer fashions are also on sale for 25% off!
