Background: About a year ago, I got a great idea for a road trip. I'd take my kids, fly from my hometown of Houston TX , to San Diego CA, and then drive from San Diego to Oakland. We'd stop and see all the sights along the way, and then fly home from Oakland. Then I asked my friend Gina, who lives in California, if she'd like to come along. With her kids. She agreed, her daughter Emma named the trip, and Death Match 2014 was born. Two ladies, seven kids, and a 15-day road trip up the California Coast. [...]

I sailed on the Carnival Ecstasy on December 13, 2013. It was a 4 day Bahamas sailing. I sailed with my husband and two kids. We stayed in an inside cabin. This was our first cruise on the Ecstasy. This ship is one of the smaller and older vessels in Carnival’s fleet. The Carnival Ecstasy is a part of Carnival’s Fantasy-Class of ships. The Ecstasy underwent a major refurbishment in fall 2009. The refurbishment featured the addition of a new wireless Internet café, a resort-style pool, an aqua park, an adult only section, [...]

Magical Memories: Wine Tasting in Napa Valley

2013-12-27T07:00:00-05:00December 27, 2013|Travel, Travel Destinations|0 Comments

This past October I had the opportunity to partake in wine tastings at 2 different wineries in Napa Valley with my sister during our girls’ getaway weekend – Kelham Vineyards and Vine Cliff Vineyards. We had a wonderful experience at both vineyards. Even though it was just after the harvest season, and most of the grapes were picked, we thoroughly enjoyed walking through the fields of grapevines. There were still some grapes left hanging on the vines, so of course we had to sample them. The grapes were so tiny and so sweet. It was hard to believe that these [...]

New Orleans with kids

I’ve been to New Orleans several times with other adults, but when my nine-year-old son chose this destination for a mother/son trip, I thought “Why not?” New Orleans is full of fun, interesting and educational things to do with your kids. One of our first stops was City Park. They have a playground area named Storyland, where all the play equipment has been designed by Mardi Gras float makers. It’s a lot of fun for the kids to play, while also figuring out all the fairy tale stories that are depicted here! Also at City Park, there’s an area called [...]

Beautiful, other worldly Iceland

2013-12-06T08:10:00-05:00December 6, 2013|Travel, Travel Destinations|0 Comments

People would ask me “Where are you going for your honeymoon?” and I knew what they were envisioning: warm beaches, swimsuits, and umbrella drinks. Then I’d answer them: “Iceland!” We went to Iceland in mid-October for our honeymoon. Yes, it’s cold there, but not crazy-cold. Temps in mid-October were around 40F, so we were quite comfortable in jeans and jackets. We flew IcelandAir nonstop from Boston to Reykjavik (the capital), which took only about five hours, and arrived at 7:00am, while it was still dark. At that time of year, the sun comes up around 9:00, so it’s perfect for [...]
